little huts perched on strips of land, surrounded by water everywhere. Teknaf ranks among one of my favourite places i've ever visited
water everywhere. so beautiful. the water on the other side of the far strip of land is the Naaf River. and in the background are the hills of Burma
young village boys standing on the narrow walkway. those are gigantic palm trees growing in the water on the right side. this is one of our favourite photos
Teknaf is on the southernmost tip of Bangladesh, on a narrow strip of land with the Bay of Bengal on one side and the Naaf River on the other. The Naaf river forms the border between Bangladesh and Burma

we took this narrow little village road that people who visit Teknaf don't know about. the road ends after a while, & even our 4-wheeler couldn't make it past it all the way to the ocean. so we parked the car & walked
this is one of the most amazing places i've ever been to. beautiful and interesting and fun. cliffs surrounding the valley we were in on one side, and the valley flowing into the ocean
this woman is pulling her bundle of sticks
everyone going to check out the fishing village and the ocean
Burmese refugees have settled here on this Bangladesh side of the border. On the way to Teknaf, we passed a few refugee camps. This is not a camp, this is a village. the camps look like refugee camps -hundreds of huts all clustered together w/ UNHCR tarps
a couple villagers coming from the fishing boats lined up on the beach
you can see the turquoise blue & yellow sampans (fishing boats) lined up on the beach
two kids carrying part of the day's catch--the fish are packed in baskets with leaves, then slung on a pole.
Chuck, Letuce (our driver), and Ammu in the fishing village
hanging out with the village kids
Ammu chatting with the kids, and Chuck showing them their photos on the camera. everyone in the villages is always excited to see themselves on the camera.

Chuck became obsessed w/ these farmer hats, which are used only in this region. they're v versatile - protects u from sun & rain. in the rain, the farmers usually pull up their lungis into shorts, so they can dry themselves off easily after.
